New Original Ministries, Inc. is a 501c3, organized in 1994 exclusively for charitable, educational and
scientific purposes. It has a five member Board of Directors. New original Ministries, reflects our mission to
provide economic self-help programs. This corporation is organized exclusively for charitable, educational
scientific purposes, including but not limited to: providing spiritual development using a threefold approach that
encompasses teaching, caring and supporting those in need. Our commitment is one of vision, inspiration,
dedication and service. We shall increase the effectiveness of our citizenry by providing a full range of high
quality leadership development through seminars, workshops, resource libraries and self-improvement classes.
Our efforts are designed to eliminate many of the problems that plague our community, such as drug
use/dealing, gang affiliation, and teen pregnancy. These problems often result in youth repeating the cycles of
the previous generations which we are trying to break. If left unaddressed, these problems will more than likely
result in the youth being imprisoned, becoming drug addicts, having children at an early age (which would
result in the youth becoming welfare recipients), and dropping out of school or worse case-death. That being
said, the need for after school programming is essential in the South Shore communities in order to help reduce
some of the problems.
Some of our current successful programs are as follows:
• Job Readiness Seminars: Topics covered includes attitudes, behavior, dress, time, focus,
interview skills, resume' preparation and effective communication.
• Coffee House: Provides an environment by which young and old can express themselves through
poetry, song and dance.
• Dance Drill Team: Engaged in a safe environment that balances cognitive development with
liberal arts gymnastics, dance, sports.
• After School Program: Includes, but not limited to, academics, computer science, internet access,
character development, sports, dance and gymnastics
• Computer Training: Includes, but not limited to, academics, computer science, internet access.
• Comcast Cable Program: Provides free internet access, for computer classes offered during
school and after school programs, and Adult Learning.
• Color Guard: Choreography with flags: Ballet, Jazz, and Modern/Interpretative.
• Basketball: Ages 5 – 24
STAFFING
Our staff (which includes volunteers) consists of teachers, entrepreneurs, community leaders and
mentors which have enabled New Original Ministries to successfully complete all its past programs within a
twelve (12) month time frame. We are a team and will work together, as we have done in the past to ensure that
we are as successful with this program as we have been with all others. The end results anticipated with this
program are to keep youth out of gangs, implement self-confidence, membership, self-esteem, individual
awareness and safety through structured activities.
The goal of our programs are to expand the range of choices and opportunities that enable, empower and
encourage youth to achieve positive growth and development, improve expectations and capacities for future
success, and avoid and/or reduce risk-taking behavior. Youth who continually see poverty, violence and crime
around them may feel doomed to repeat the cycle and continue these trends their whole life. Instructor’s
qualifications and activities include:
Life Skills Education - To encompass training and education that promotes the development of healthy
lifestyles, and encourages abstinence from risk-taking behaviors in the areas of alcohol and/or substance
use, criminal activity, violence and sexual activity.
Parental Involvement - To provide opportunities for parents and/or guardians to meet with staff to
discuss their children’s activities, and to participate in events that strengthen parent/child bonds and
community involvement.
Recreation, Sports, and Cultural/Artistic Activities - This includes providing activities and arranging
safe outlets for youth to try new skills and develop new interests, to build friendships, find their place in
a group, and gain developmentally relevant experiences.
Positive Adult Mentors - To allow opportunities for youth to develop and maintain positive sustained
relationships with caring adults through mentoring and other programs that emphasize one-on-one
interactions.
Service Learning Activities – Students will build academic skills while strengthening communities
through service. Service learning will combine service tasks with structure, youth-driven opportunities
that link the task to self-reflection, self-discovery, and the acquisition and comprehension of values,
skills and knowledge content with service tasks.
HISTORY
New Original Ministries has a history of providing effective after school programs and services to youth.
Since 2006 New Original Ministries has provided a structured year round after school program for students K-8.
Approximately 100 students are served annually. From 2006-2008 the program was held at Faulkner School,
7110 S. Coles. From 2008 to present the program was held at both New Original Church of God in Christ
located at 1750 East 78th Street and the Comuniversity located at 9101 South Jeffrey Blvd. The complex
includes a full-size gymnasium, several community all purpose rooms for seminars, two computer labs, music
room, children’s playground, two swimming pools, a rooftop vegetable garden and an expansive garden area for
outdoor events. Success of the program is evidenced by increased test scores, communication skills, discipline
and character development. In addition, our organization owned and operated Faulkner Elementary School,
2001 with an enrollment of 150 students, and a staff of 15. New Original Ministries organized a coalition of
south side ministers and businesses, and executed the "Taste of South Shore", at Rainbow Beach, feeding over
5,000 annually for five years. In addition, has owned and operated a Day Care Center, Internet Learning centers,
After School Programs, Urban Summer Work Program for teens, Summer Day Camps , Rites of Passage for
girls and boys, and the Chicago Youth Workforce Experience Program for the past three years to name a few.
We provide children a safe haven under the guidance of a caring adult. Our After School Programs give
student a sense of belonging to something positive and fun. Through sports and dance, our students health and
wellness skills have greatly increased. Our programs empower children to spearhead small micro – programs
within one large program, e.g. sports, dance, tutoring, homework club, and art. Thus, providing opportunities
for them to develop self-awareness and to take responsibilities, develop commitments, and assuming leadership
roles, while being guided by a caring adult.

comprehensive spiritual and educational programs that will help develop strong character, cultural, social,
citizenship and community transformation and development. In addition, yearly fundraisers and banquets will
continue to generate funding for programs.
